SEC Media Days (Tuesday)

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Tuesday marked the second of four sessions of SEC Media Days. Four schools made their rounds in Hoover. The full wrap up is in the featured video.

Kirby Smart the headliner on Tuesday. Smart, who has spent the last eight seasons as defensive coordinator under Nick Saban at Alabama, is now taking his first head coaching job and says it will take some adjusting. A lot of question mark the offensive side of the ball with both Nick Chubb and Sony Michel both questionable for the season opener due to injuries, but Smart is still confident in his team.

Mississippi State

It's hard to believe but Dan Mullen in heading into his eighth season as Mississippi State head coach. Mullen and school officials have had to answer some tough questions about the addition of five star defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons who will serve a one game suspension for an incident in March where he was caught on video hitting a female. For the first time in four years someone other than Dak Prescott will lead the team on offense. The two time All-American and most decorated player in school history is on to the NFL leaving the team to fill his big shoes.

The Tennessee Vols have a returning quarterback in Josh Dobbs who could possibly make a run at run at the Heisman trophy and a field full of other returning players, so there is some high expectations in Knoxville.

Texas A&M

Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight has twice been a part of media days in his career - both of them in the Big 12. The former Oklahoma star will spend his final season of eligibility in College Station as the leader of the Aggies offense. In the 2014 Sugar Bowl, Knight threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns in Oklahoma’s win over Alabama and says he’s ready for a full season against SEC defenses. Coach Sumlin did not beat around the bush when it comes to the team’s improvement. He says being able to stop the run consistently is the first priority, but he’s also happy with how far the program has come in their short tenure in the league.
