New Jail Contract Between Gadsden and Etowah County

There is a new jail contract between the city of Gadsden and Etowah County. The Etowah County Commission agreed that the county jail will house the people arrested by Gadsden police officers. The previous contract said the city had to guarantee 40 beds at the jail. The new agreement does not set out a guaranteed number of prisoners. Gadsden police officers will bring their misdemeanor arrestees and people sentenced from municipal court to the jail as they need to. The city will pay the Etowah County Commission $350-thousand a year. The arrangement renews the agreement the city chose to end last year.
