Time to say RIP to the VCR. The world’s last video cassette recorder will be manufactured this month — That’s according to Japan’s FUNAIElectric. The company claims to be the only VCR manufacturer left. FUNAI first started manufacturing VCR’s in 1983. And at one point was selling 15-million units a year. But, the clunky VCR has since been replaced by new technologies. Last year FUNAI says it sold only 750,000 units, and found it was getting harder to find the parts to make VCRs.
