Protesters Target Gadsden Court

That’s civil rights attorney Eric Hutchins, leading a group of about 100 protesters this afternoon in front of Gadsden Municipal Court. The protesters say they are upset with the way Gadsden Municipal Judge Tom King operates his court. Among their complaints are the judge’s requirement that only people on the docket are allowed in the courtroom, and the manner in which he addresses defendants during their cases. Hutchins says federal lawsuits have already been filed in connection with these complaints, and he says the next step in the protest will be to take these issues all the way to Washington. There were no confrontations between court officials and protesters during today’s demonstration. In fact, police officers passed out water bottles and cookies to the protesters.
