A Gadsden woman charged with capital murder died Sunday night in the Etowah County Jail. Sheriff Todd Entrekin identifies the inmate as 60-year-old Eva Goggins Lindsey, who was arrested last year and charged with the death of a 6-month-old infant, and who was being held without bond pending a trial in that case. An autopsy revealed that the child died in 2014 from blunt-force trauma. Entrekin says Lindsey’s death appears to be from natural causes. Last week, attorneys for Lindsey asked an Etowah County judge to release her from jail because she was in the last stages of breast cancer and had very little time to live. The judge denied that request.
