The 70 members of the Alabama House Republican Caucus unanimously affirmed that Representative Mac McCutcheon of Madison will serve as the group's nominee for Speaker of the House when lawmakers convene for a special session on August 15. McCutcheon, who currently serves as chairman of the agenda-setting House Rules Committee, was elected to the body in 2006. Prior to retiring after a 25-year career, McCutcheon was a law enforcement officer in the Huntsville Police Department. Republicans currently hold a supermajority in the 105 member Alabama House.
