According to Oxford Police, a man walking along the train tracks in Oxford was struck and killed by an east-bound train this afternoon. Lieutenant Donald Ridley tells TV 24 that the incident occurred between Coleman Road and Leon Smith Parkway at about 12:30 p.m. The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was walking toward the east and had his back to the train. Ridley says the engineer blew his horn and tried to warn the man, but he did not respond and was killed instantly. Police found no identification on the body, which has been turned over to the Calhoun County Coroner’s office. Ridley says there were no visibility issues, and the operator of the train appears to have done all he could to avoid the incident.
