It is that time of year again for local shoppers, gifters, and sellers looking for a unique find, a great deal, and new friendships… Every year at The World’s Longest Yard Sale plenty of local people clean out their closets and stake out their front yards along the Highway 127 corridor stretching over 690 miles from Gadsden, Alabama to Addison, Michigan. Greater Gadsden Area Tourism Executive Director Hugh Stump says neighbors come together in groups or individually and over a four-day weekend they welcome visitors from the North, South East and West. He says shoppers and onlookers come for one unique thing – The World’s Longest Yard Sale. He says that at his booth you can get refreshed with bottled water and cool down with a hand fan. The yard sale, also known as the 127 Corridor Sale, has been going on for almost 30 years. And many participants say it is a mutual exchange of cultures with a common goal; to look, buy and sell! The sale began in 1987 as a way to draw visitors from interstates to back roads. This year’s sale started Thursday and runs through Sunday.
