A scam artist impersonates a police sergeant to lure people into buying prepaid cards from Wal-Mart and sending them to him. According to The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the person uses the name Sergeant Wayne Matthews. He states that he is from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and that they have missed court. He also says the person he’s calling is going to be arrested if they do not get pre-paid cards from Wal-Mart. The schemer is calling from a private number and giving the Court Referral number as a call back number. Authorities say do not respond if you receive a call like this, but rather call your local Police department or Sheriff’s office.
