Lottery Bill Passes Through House of Reps

Saturday, August 27, 2016

The Alabama House of Representatives narrowly approved Governor Robert Bentley's proposed state lottery Thursday night after 14 hours of debate and two vote attempts. The bill passed shortly before midnight on a 64 to 35 vote, exceeding the 63 votes required to pass the chamber. House District 30 Representative Mack Butler says although they passed a clean lottery bill he doesn’t expect the Senate to pass it. If the idea is approved by lawmaker, Alabama would become the 45th state with a lottery.
