Prescription Drug Costs Skyrocket

Many families are facing sticker shock at the drug store. By now you’ve probably heard about the dramatic increase in the cost of epi-pens…But the allergy medication is not alone. Since 2009 the cost of an epi-pen has skyrocketed. But epi-pens are just one example of a growing concern. According to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, consumer spending on prescription drugs increased 20-percent between 2013 and 2015. Government policies, FDA regulatory rules, and physician prescribing practices are what officials say seem to be the blame. In a statement, Mylan, the company that makes and sells epi-pens, acknowledged more needs to be done to help patients with high-deductible insurance plans.
