At the Piedmont City Council meeting, Piedmont Memory Gardens presented a possible solution to the city’s problem of running out of burial plots at city-owned Highland Cemetery. They offered to sell 110 plots to the city for a total of $58,000. Memory Gardens officials suggested that once those plots were sold back to the public, the city would get its money back. Mayor Bill Baker said the council would come to a decision in time for its next meeting. In other business, the council committed more than $35,000 to the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission to continue participating in its public transportation program for another year.
