JSU Mourns Loss of Student


Jacksonville State University is mourning the loss of a freshmen member of the Marching Southerners Ballerinas. 18-year-old Katie Beth Carter of Ringgold Georgia died after sustaining injuries in a two car crash on Monday. JSU President John Beehler says Katie Beth was a first-year student, and she was a "Baby Ballerina". She was seeking a BSE degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Katie Beth was pronounced dead on Monday at Grady Hospital in Atlanta after she had been airlifted from the crash that took place on US 278 near Piedmont. According to Senior Trooper Chuck Daniel, the JSU student was seriously injured when the car she was driving was struck by a tractor trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
