The Alabama Board of Education approves a contract for the state's new school superintendent. Michael Sentance's contract comes with a $198,000 annual salary and a monthly housing allotment of $1,750. The contract expires at the end of 2018, but it is renewable. Two of the nine school board members voted against offering the contract to Sentance. The former Massachusett's education secretary is set to take over the Alabama Department of Education Monday. However, many have criticized Sentance for his lack of experience at the school level and in the classroom. Those in support of Sentance say the state needs a fresh set of eyes in the education field.
