The Anniston Fire Department breaks ground on a new fire tower at Station Number 3. Training Officer Johnnie Phelps says it is a big step for the region and the fire college. He says it will raise fire training for the region and make the college a large, multi-facet training facility with plenty of space. Phelps says it is a big first step toward making Anniston a Regional Training facility.Phelps says the fire tower will be a three and a half story block building with a furnace. With the furnace system, instructors will be able to simulate the heat of a real fire without actually burning anything. The tower is scheduled to be completed in the next two to three months.
