If you see more, older women having children, there’s a reason, and ramifications. New data shows women are waiting longer to become mothers. The CDC says it has been rising for the last 15 years. The average age of women having their first child has risen to 26. Back in 2000, it was just under 25-years-old. Researchers say this is partly because there are fewer mothers under the age of 20. In fact, the teen birth rate has hit an all-time low. One area of concern, doctors say older women having children increases a mother’s risk of complications like gestational diabetes and passing on genetic defects.
