High Speed Police Chase

A man is accused of stealing a red Dodge pickup truck in St.Clair County and then attempting to run over and kill two St. Clair deputies on his way to Georgia. St.Clair County Sheriff Billy Murray says, 32-year-old Jeremy McCartney of Albertville is in custody and charged with reckless endangerment and First Degree theft of property. McCartney may face additional charges. Heflin Police Chief AJ Benefield says the chase started near noon and ended at 1:00PM near mile marker 212 on I-20. Speeds of more than 100 miles per hour were reached in the chase as Heflin police along with Alabama State Troopers made attempts to stop the truck. Authorities finally stopped McCartney on the fourth try of using road spikes. Seven law enforcement agencies were included in the pursuit.
