A local youth organization is a major step closer to getting a new home. The City of Gadsden has approved a $1.2 million dollar construction contract for renovations on the former General Forrest Middle School building – which will soon become the new, permanent home of the Boys & Girls Club of Gadsden/Etowah County. The city announced its partnership with the club back in September and hopes to have the building ready for use in time for summer programs. Williams adds that the location of the new facility will provide many opportunities for area youth. A capital campaign is currently underway to help the group furnish the new club. Williams says that they hope to raise about $75,000 in donations in order to make sure the new facility has all of the furnishings and technology that they will need. If you would like to make a donation to the Boys & Girls Club, visit their website at www.bgcgadsden.org or call the club office at 256.459.4573.
