More than 400 people turned out last night for the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office free firearms training at the Anniston Meeting Center. Sheriff Larry Amerson says this is the 81st time and the twentieth year they have had the training. He says people want to be able to protect themselves, their homes, and their families. Amerson says the training is to prepare firearm owners on when you can use deadly force and know how to use firearms appropriately.
Amerson adds that he’s seeing more first-time gun owners. But, he wants to stress that merely having a gun does not make you safe, which is why this kind of training is invaluable. He says the process of owning a firearm starts with a simple system. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office will continue to conduct firearms training every quarter.
