Possible Change to Adult/Youthful Offender Line

An Alabama senator wants to change a state law requiring 16- and 17-year olds who are accused of serious crimes to stand trial as adults.  The legislation pre-filed by Senator Dick Brewbaker would require a judge to decide whether the teens would be tried as an adult. Franklin County district attorney Joey Rushing says the law would only apply to someone 16 years or older who faces charges for extremely violent crime, such as murder or a drug- trafficking offense.
