Grand Opening of Choccolocco Park


The grand opening of a local park has people excited about baseball games, softball games and so much more. The city of Oxford cut the ribbon for the new Choccolocco Park Sunday afternoon. In addition to the athletic fields, the park has complex water features and natural resources. The park also offers picnic pavilions, walking and biking trails and more. Council President, Steven Waits says many people came out to celebrate. It has taken 12 years to build and prepare the park. Director of Oxford Parks and Recreation, Don Hudson, says the park is a great place for everyone. The park holds five baseball, four softball, four soccer fields as well as a track and field facilities. Choccolocco Park will be the home for Jacksonville State University’s baseball and track teams this upcoming 2017 season. It will also serve as the home fields for Oxford High Schools baseball, softball, track and soccer teams. The park will be also be the site for the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference in May.
