A grand jury has cleared Alabama’s former top cop of any criminal wrongdoing. The attorney general’s office today announced plans to close the investigation against former Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Secretary Spencer Collier. Governor Robert Bentley requested the investigation in March after firing Collier for what he called possible misuse of state funds. The attorney general’s office said grand jurors found no misuse of money or a basis for initiating the investigation. Collier’s attorney said the claims were retaliation for Collier exposing Bentley’s relationship with a staff member. Bentley admitted making inappropriate remarks to his former senior adviser, but denied having an affair.
