A senior Democrat State Representative is asking that his party’s leadership resign from their posts. House Minority Leader Craig Ford, who represents House District 28 here in East Alabama, sent a letter earlier this week to Alabama Democratic Party leaders Nancy Worley and Joe Reed saying that the party was currently “on life support” and that the only hope in turning the situation around is a change in party leadership. Ford pointed to the lack of Democratic candidates on the ballots in recent years as just one indication of the failures of party leadership. As for himself, Ford says in the letter that he will not seek re-election to his position as Minority Leader in the House. Many have speculated that Ford intends to run for Governor in 2018. Ford says that he is exploring his options.
