One statewide business and one nationwide corporation came together to help local schools and show children how important they are. Alabama Power teamed up with Whirlpool to hold a refrigerator art competition. Students in kindergarten through 5th grade throughout Calhoun County drew pictures in hopes to win a brand new side by side refrigerator. The prize wasn't just for the student, but for their school as well. Whirlpool’s Alabama Market Manager, Scott Uding says that it’s important for the students to know they are the future. The theme of the contest was STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math. Students in kindergarten and first grade were asked to include numbers in their drawings. Grades second and third drew an invention they imagined and fourth and fifth grade students drew a famous scientist and/ or discovery or invention.
