One Charged After Being Shot During Robbery

A Weaver man is charged with robbery after being released from a Birmingham hospital. Malachi Hicks entered Betty’s Bar-B-Q on South Quintard Avenue armed with a .22 caliber pistol. The father of an employee grabbed his .45 caliber pistol confronted Hicks and shot him multiple times. Hicks left the scene with his weapon along with about $6,000. Hicks was quickly found and took him to UAB Hospital. Hicks was arrested at the Police Department and later released on a $30,000 bond. The man who shot Hicks will not be charged.
