Wildfire in Talladega National Forest

Wednesday, November 2, 2016

Another wildfire is making its way through hundreds of acres in the Talladega National Forest as Chris mentioned last night. The forest fire, south of the Cheaha State Park in Clay County, began Sunday evening near National Forest System Road 600. The fire forced the closure of portions of the road Monday and sections of Cemetery Mountain Road today. Crews have contained the fire, but it does continue to burn. According to the Alabama Forestry Commission, since the first of October there have been more than one-thousand wildfires that have destroyed more than 11,000 acres statewide. The state of Alabama is still under a “No Burn Order,” which prohibits all outdoor burning.
