German-Italian Cemetery Memorial Ceremony

Saturday, November 12, 2016

As you take time to remember the men and women who’ve served our country, one group is asking that you also remember veterans from other countries who are buried in East Alabama.  26 German and three Italian World War II POWs are buried at the German-Italian Cemetery at McClellan. Each year for the past four decades, a group has planned a public memorial service for those former prisoners of war. This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. The German-Italian Cemetery is located on Shipley Road at the former Army fort. The ceremony includes a wreath-laying along with color guard duties from the JSU ROTC. After the ceremony, the public is invited to attend a reception at the Cane Creek Masters Complex at McClellan.
