Anniston’s largest hospital is making a major change. Regional Medical Center will be downgrading its state trauma system status from a level two to level three. The change will remove RMC from the system’s rotation of accepting certain trauma patients outside its five-county service area. RMC’s Marketing Director, Kate Van Meter says it’s all about what’s best for the patient. This could mean longer travels to Birmingham for more patients because no other hospital in the region meets the necessary trauma criteria. The change will take effect on December 1st.
