Planning for a park that would include an area for special needs children is underway in Etowah County. Earlier this year Jacob Millican announced a nonprofit organization called Gadsden-Etowah Adventures. The organization was given a two-year option from the city of Gadsden for 64 acres of property around the old steel plant pump station off Brooke Avenue. The organization’s plans are to develop a park designed to accommodate disabled children, a whitewater park on Big Wills Creek and other outdoor recreation areas. The organization hopes to raise about 6-million dollars and to begin development within the next year and a half. Gadsden-Etowah Adventures has a grant writer working to find grants the project could be eligible for.
