It doesn’t seem the rain in our forecast is slowing down the number of wildfires. Seven Etowah and Cherokee county volunteer fire departments worked overnight to contain the flames against strong winds. The fire was called in around 7 last night near Tomcat Road. Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin says he has never seen a wildfire spread so quickly or grow so large in his 34 years with the sheriff’s department. No known structures were damaged and it is still unclear what started the fire. While the fire has been put out, it was still being monitored throughout the day today. There are reports of downed trees and power lines in the area still. No one was injured.
