Potential For Scams During the Holidays

Tuesday, December 6, 2016

Attorney General Luther Strange is urging Alabamians to take precautions against scams and other potential dangers this holiday season. Scammers often contact people by phone, email or showing up at your front door asking for donations for a charity. People often collect money for charities, but they aren’t all real. If you are suspicious contact your local law enforcement agency. Gift cards are one way that people can steal from you. Scammers sometimes rub off the security codes of gift cards while still on the shelves, then once the card has been sold, they activate the card. So make sure that if you purchase a gift card the security code has not been scratched off. Attorney General Strange says to use your best judgment.
