Black Bear Killed in the Talladega National Forest

A Talladega man faces charges for killing a black bear. Matthew Stewart was arrested for shooting a black bear with a crossbow in the Talladega National Forest in Clay County. If Stewart is convicted he could face a minimum of one year in jail and a fine of $2,000. Stewart will appear in Clay County District Court on February 7th. Sightings of bears is increasing and it is important to know how to react and what steps to take. Avoid eye contact, do not run; back away slowly, stand tall and make loud noises.
