ADPH Encouraging Warning Pregnant Women

The Alabama Department of Public Health is encouraging pregnant women to get tested for syphilis. At least 10 babies have been born with the illness thus far in 2016. According to the health department, eight of the 10 mothers received no prenatal care or did not receive prenatal care until late in their pregnancy. The state health department is offering a free test for any woman not receiving care by the second trimester. Treatment for syphilis during pregnancy can prevent it from being passed to the baby.
