Gadsden Fire Department wants to remind you there are risk factors for fire during the holiday season. During this time of freshly baked cookies, it is important to remember the three major area and to be mindful. Gadsden Assistant Fire Marshall, Heath Smith says these tips could save your life. Cooking is the leading cause of home fires. In the event that you do have a pan fire slide a lid on the pan and turn off the burner. Candles are a great way to welcome others into your home. When you leave a room or go to bed make sure you blow them out. Christmas trees can be one of the most serious fire hazards during the holidays. When decorating your tree check lights and bulbs. Always turn off your tree before leaving your house of going to bed. Smith also says to check and make sure your smoke detectors are working.
