Former Police Chief Sentenced
A former Stevenson Police Chief will spend more than two years in prison for beating and for allowing a friend to beat a suspect. Daniel Winters will also pay a restitution of nearly $13,000 on two counts of violating an individual’s civil rights. During the trial the evidence shows Chief Winters and a friend went to the home of a D.F. Winters, who was suspected of possessing items that had been stolen from the chief's friends business. The Chief and his friend entered the home without a search warrant and began beating the suspect. D.F. Winters was taken to the Stevenson Police Department covered in blood and later then taken to a hospital where he received medical attention.
