Anniston's role in the civil rights movement has landed national recognition. We first told you last week about President Obama granting national monuments for Freedom Riders Park off Highway 202 and the old Greyhound bus station in downtown. Those are the areas where angry mobs attacked a bus carrying a group of black and white passengers. The members of the Freedom Riders committee have been looking forward to this announcement for a long time. Freedom Riders Committee Co-chairman, Pete Conroy, says the people of Anniston better get ready, to celebrate... More than fifteen-hundred people gathered to celebrate the announcement. Conroy also says there is still much work that needs to be done.
