Enrollment Numbers on the Rise

Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Student enrollment is soaring at the Calhoun County Career Academy. Nearly 600 students from across the district are enrolled in one of the eleven programs, which is up from more than 300 a couple of years ago. Students from all over Calhoun County take a tour of the campus when they enter the eighth grade. Alexandria High Junior, Zarriyah Barbar, says she strives for greatness. At the end of their eighth grade year, each student takes an evaluation that lets the instructors know the student's interests. Councilor, Donna Nash couldn’t be more thrilled about the enrollment numbers. Nash says some of the most popular programs are cosmetology, early childhood education, and welding. Students who go through the program get hands on experience and learn what it’s like to work in that profession. The academy is open to 10th, 11th and 12th graders.
