Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman is back in the state tonight following his release from a federal prison in Louisiana. Siegelman arrived at the Birmingham Airport around lunch today. A crowd of supporters holding signs gathered to welcome the former governor. Federal officers drove Siegelman from the airport to a probation office in Birmingham then released him under house arrest for the remainder of his 78-month sentence, which ends August 8. In 2006, a federal jury convicted Siegelman of selling an appointment to a state health board in exchange for donations to his 1999 campaign for a state lottery.
