Retiring Tattered American Flags

Saturday, February 11, 2017

One organization is urging you to bring them your tattered American Flags. The Gadsden Etowah Patriots Association has been collecting damaged American flags for five years. When a flag is brought to the association it is placed in a used flag box. The group believes that when a flag is too far gone to be repaired properly, it should be retired. As part of the protocol; the American flag is to be retired as an old soldier who served its country. Retired Vietnam Veteran Rick Vaughan says he is proud of his country. The association has held about 1,000 retirement ceremonies and repaired more than two-hundred flags. Once a flag has been repaired it is donated to an organization in need of an American flag.
