Fundraiser Money Stolen from Local Organization

Wednesday, March 1, 2017

A non-profit organization for young athletes in Gadsden has their hopes stolen, but they aren’t giving up easily. The Gadsden Burners is an organization for kids who compete in track and field events. Saturday February 25th the group hosted an all-day fundraiser. After an exhausting day two of the women associated with the organization went to have dinner. When they came out of the restaurant they noticed one of the women’s cars had been broken into and the money was gone. They had raised $2,500 for this year’s trip to Nationals. Gadsden Burners President Tameka Curry says all the money they receive for the team is money they worked for. Curry says that if the person who took the money comes forward and gives the money back, the Gadsden Burners won’t press any charges. The organization is doing everything they can to raise more money before they are scheduled to leave next Thursday. The team is accepting donations through their P.O. Box and ask that checks be made out to Gadsden Burners.
