The city of Anniston has lowered its age requirement for wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle. The old law requires everyone to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. During the council meeting Monday members agreed to lower the age requirement to require only riders under 16 years of age to wear a helmet. President of the North Alabama Bicycle Association Dr. Tom Nelson says he understands the change. Dr. Nelson also says that while he understands the age requirement he and his family will continue to wear helmets when riding their bikes. City Manager Kent Davis says the city also has a plan is to encourage establishments to open kiosks downtown where people can rent bikes for a short time.
