Etowah County's spelling bee champion participates in state wide competition. Jon Thomas Farley from Etowah Middle was one of two spellers still standing on Saturday afternoon during the Scripps Alabama State Spelling Bee Championship. Farley finished the competition as the runner up to Erin Howard. Farley studied for three months to prepare for the championship. This was Farley’s last year to qualify to compete in the spelling bee, but he believes that all of his hard studying has helped widen his vocabulary. The entire competition took a total of five hours.
