The Alabama Senate has approved the largest education budget in nine years. The Fiscal year 2018 budget allocates 6.4-billion dollars to Alabama’s K through 12 schools, community colleges and universities. Senator Arthur Orr says a quality education system is essential for giving all Alabama students a shot at the American dream. The education budget also includes a 15-million dollar increase for First Class, Alabama’s nationally-recognized Pre-K program, a 4.4-million dollar increase for transportation, a 1.75-million dollar increase for workforce development, and a $400,000 increase for active shooter response training.
