A woman who has been around longer than sliced bread is celebrating another year.
Alice Nixon lives in Calhoun County, but she was born in Beaufort, South Carolina on April 6, 1910. The 107-year-old recalls what it was like growing up without electricity under kerosene lights. She often worked in the garden at night picking tomatoes and says it was hard work. Nixon says the key to living a long life...is kindness. Nixon tells us she doesn’t eat very much, but never misses a breakfast of grits, bacon, eggs and coffee. Nixon lives with her only remaining daughter, who says her mother doesn’t like to stay still for very long.
