Lawmakers Says Governor Bentley Needs to Step Aside
Alabama’s most powerful lawmaker, Senator Del Marsh of Anniston, says Governor Robert Bentley needs to step aside and let lawmakers get down to business. Thanks for joining us. I’m Mickey Shadrix. Senator Marsh’s comments are coming just one day after the Alabama Ethics Commission found probable cause to refer four cases against Bentley to the district attorney’s office for possible legal action. The ethics commission, which serves as a grand jury, held an executive session Wednesday to consider the complaints against Governor Bentley. State Auditor Jim Zeigler claims Bentley used state resources for a personal relationship with his former senior policy adviser Rebekah Mason. Zeigler also claims Bentley paid Mason illegally from a non-governmental fund. Bentley has denied any ethics violations and says he won’t resign. The governor’s attorney says he doesn’t know whether the four cases are separate from the impeachment efforts, but lawmakers are vowing to move forward with the impeachment proceedings.
