We are down to the top 16 teams in Classes 1A-6A in the high school baseball playoffs. 13 local teams have advanced to the second round, including perennial power Southside.
TV24 Sports dropped by the Panthers' practice on Wednesday ahead of their matchup against Hartselle. The two 6A teams have similar resumes heading into the best-of-three series. Tigers are 26-19 on the season and have won 6 of their last 7 games to finish No. 8 in the final ASWA polls. Meanwhile Southside is No. 9 in the state with a 19-10 record and are victorious in eight of their last nine games. The Panthers swept Shades Valley in the first round last week.

Southside will be on the road for the first time in the playoffs. The Panthers will suit up in one of the toughtest environments in the state at Hartselle. The two teams played in the first game of the season, a game the Tigers won 6-2. The Panthers are ready for the return trip and all of its challenges. Game 1 of their best-of-three series begin Friday at 4:30 p.m. Game two will follow on Friday night. If necessary game three is scheduled for Saturday.
