Fire at Local Elementary School
A fire has one local elementary school’s students perfecting their drill skills. The Jacksonville Fire Department received a call around 11 this morning of a fire in one of the bathrooms in Kitty Stone Elementary. At this time an investigation is still ongoing, but Fire Chief Wade Buckner says the fire was intentional. Chief Buckner also says that the school of more than 900 students did an excellent job of evacuating and staying calm during the situation. Chief Buckner says a student started the fire by lighting a roll of toilet paper. The Schools Resource Officer and a teacher put the fire out with a fire extinguisher minimizing the damage. The incident only lasted 30 minutes.
