An annual kick off for summer food services is underway at a local elementary school. The Alabama State Department of Education hosted its 5th annual summer food service program kickoff rally today at Lincoln Elementary School. The department of education, Talladega County Board of Education, and others are partnering for the Break for a Plate program. The program is designed to bring children healthy and nutritious meals during the summer. Child Nutrition Program Specialist Danielle Turk explains why this program is so important. Last summer the program gave more than two million free meals to youth 18 and under. The Break for a Plate program will begin the first day of summer vacation. The program has multiple locations set up across our area.
