Police arrest a Boaz man in connection to drug trafficking. Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit Deputy Commander Phil Sims says after a two month long investigation, Omar Ortiz-Rodriguez is behind bars and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. Last week, Etowah and Marshall County drug agents and Boaz Police went to Ortiz’s home on George Johnson Road in Boaz to serve an arrest warrant. Ortiz tried to block the front door, forcing agents to kick the door open. Agents recovered about 53 grams of methamphetamine, several firearms and two vehicles. This case is still under investigation and additional state or federal charges are expected. Ortiz is being held at the Etowah County Detention Center on a $75,000 dollar cash bond.
