The Jacksonville State softball team is the No. 3 seed in the Tallahassee Regional and will face Georgia on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
The Gamecocks (40-10) learned their postseason destination on Sunday's NCAA Division I Softball Championship Selection Show. They make their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance and the second in a row by facing the Bulldogs (33-21), who are the No. 2 seed in the four-team regional. Host and No. 4 National Seed Florida State will play Princeton in the other game on Friday.
The Gamecocks earn a No. 3 seed or higher in the NCAA Tournament for the third time, the only three by any school in the OVC. They were the No. 3 seed in the 2008 Tuscaloosa Regional, where they eliminated Florida State to advance to the championship game, and was the No. 2 seed in the 2009 Knoxville Regional that JSU won.
JSU earned the OVC's automatic bid into the field of 64 teams by sweeping through the OVC Tournament last week in Oxford. JSU rallied from a 4-0 deficit to defeat SIUE 5-4 in Saturday's Championship Game and secure a spot in the NCAA Regionals for the seventh time in the last 10 years.
JSU is 1-2 all-time vs. the Bulldogs and last faced Georgia in the 2016 Diamond 9 Citrus Classic at Walt Disney World, where the then-No. 9 Bulldogs earned a 9-0 win. The Gamecocks' split a pair of games with UGA in Athens, Ga., in 2005, winning a 3-2 decision before dropping a 13-5 contest.
